Schedule of suggested activities?
Need a break? You will be visiting one of the most beautiful places on earth, and no trip is complete without a bit of touring around with your personal hiking guides. Daily excursions to the royal city of Victoria can be arranged as part of your visit, or perhaps a drive to beautiful botanical beach, or the spectacular waterfall into the ocean at Mystic Beach. The Sheringham Lighthouse is a five minute walk away, and is one of our writer’s favorite places to visit where you can sit and watch the seals play in the kelp beds as you watch the sun set on the ocean. Excursions can be as long or as short as you wish. Each day, join consultants for walks through forests of giant cedar trees, hike along sandy beaches, or toast marshmallows over a roaring campfire under the stars while you marvel at the natural beauty around you. Watch eagles soar over crashing waves while seals and otters play in the swell. The west coast is famous for spectacular halibut and salmon fishing. Fishing tours can also be arranged for an additional fee, as well as surfing lessons. Get your writing muscles, body and mind into shape at this spectacular retreat by the sea.

What is the weather like? What should I bring?
The West Coast is known for spectacular wave action at this time of the year, and surfers come from all over to ride the waves. With less than three days of snow per year, the area is better known for spectacular crashing waves against the rocks than for cold weather. Be sure to bring rain gear, and sunglasses. The Sooke area is green and mossy all year round, with equal amounts of sunshine and rain. With an annual average of 73 precipitation and temperatures for November between 6 – 17 Celsius (between 43 – 63 Fahrenheit), it is no wonder why so many seals and otters call this area home.

What others have to say?

“The workshop was more than just an opportunity to write, it was the chance to be suddenly thrust into a small community of energized creativity where ‘comraderie’ was the word of the day, even in the silence when we worked on our own projects. I would go again in a heartbeat!” ~ Diann Beck, Screenwriter (Denver, CO) ~

whale“I truly had an amazing time. You and Bob made me feel extremely at ease (and surprisingly productive) with my writing and were just amazing to hang around with. I still can’t get over how far my story’s come. And ideas keep popping into my head now. It probably would have taken me weeks to figure this out without this retreat! So thank you very, very much! Thank you again for making the trip such an amazing experience. Save me a space on the next one!” ~ Jennifer Zinone, Screenwriter (New Jersey) ~

“Thanks again for the inspiration and the opportunity you provided in this retreat. Amazing! Last Thursday I arrived with only vague ideas concerning the beginning and ending of a potential screenplay; I wrote 66 pages there, came back to Phoenix, finished my rough draft, did my edits, and today I registered my finished script with the WGAW. WOW–START TO FINISH IN EIGHT DAYS! I thought the cost for the workshop was extremely reasonable, especially considering it included entry into PitchFest. I would definitely attend another workshop structured in the same manner; although I remain inspired by my experience, I doubt I have the self-discipline to write in such an intensive and productive manner on my own.” ~ J. D. Nielsen, Screenwriter (Arizona) ~

star-fish“This retreat was a fantastic experience that I will never forget. It was extremely well organized and provided good value for the money. Being around other creative people who share my passion for writing was highly motivating. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait for the next one! This personalized retreat gives you everything you need to take your script from ordinary to extraordinary. The lessons, planning sheets and feedback helped structure my script and prevented my idea from going in the wrong direction from the start. It saved me a lot of time! Signe Olynyk and Bob Schultz are excellent script consultants. Thanks to their fabulous notes and ideas, my script improved significantly. They have tons of experience and they really know what they’re talking about. Signe and Bob genuinely want to help other screenwriters improve their craft and are obviously motivated by their love of the creative process.” ~ Angela Gouglas, Screenwriter (Oshawa, Ontario) ~

“As a strong starter who’s a weak finisher, I knew I needed this kind of atmosphere to give me some success. And it worked! I wrote 80 pages in under 48 hours and got all the way to “FADE OUT.” That was a major victory. It was a great setup to have our own working room, filled with historical inspiration as well as the mojo created by the like-minded participants and our fabulous hosts, Signe and Bob.” ~ Tammy Gross, Florida ~

2720468319_6fc7b4d967“I also can’t thank you enough for this retreat, especially for yours and Bob’s time, hard work, and passion for helping other screenwriters. Both of you made it an unforgettable experience, and I am sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. Thank you so much!” ~ Shannon Wingard, Carlsbad (CA) ~

“We were only as good as our hosts. Signe and Bob set the tone the minute we met at the ‘meet and greet’ upon arrival. You were exceptionally encouraging, and I could not have done what I did without your warmth, charm, and the fact that the retreat was so well organized and well done, all around. Kudos to you. I will forever be in your debt and will always be fond of you for providing me with this opportunity. I think the world of you, I really do. I loved the retreat, the atmosphere sparked my creativity, the lessons provided were incredibly useful, and the room to write in was awesome. I had a perfect moment in there one night, when I was alone, realizing, WOW, I am writing a screenplay in this amazing place. Thank you for that. I never would have had that moment if not for you.” ~ Greg Vest (Nebraska) ~
